Greetings! Hope you are well!
This is a reminder about our upcoming meeting tomorrow, April 5th! Please join us as we host
Dr. Kim Bateman, PhD, who is a close friend, and someone who is an amazing advocate in the areas of palliative care and bereavement. To be sure, Dr. Bateman is known for her engaging and entertaining presenting style! Her research interests include organizational psychology, bereavement, and humor and she has delivered many (recent and notable) keynote addresses, including: "There's a fox under my bed and pixie dust in my hair," at the Developmental Psychology Conference, "The Psychology of Humor" at the Women’s Wellness Conference, and “College Culture through the song lyrics of Bob Marley,” at the Community College League of CA conference. She recently presented a TEDx talk called “Singing Over Bones” and is the author of a book on the same subject called "Crossing the Owl's Bridge: A Guide for Grieving People who Still Love" (Chiron Publications, 2016). Dr. Bateman serves as the Executive Dean of the Tahoe-Truckee Campus of Sierra College as well. I've had the pleasure of hearing Dr. Bateman at a large palliative care conference in Greece in 2013, and she was, incredible.
The title of her presentation is, "Symbol-Making and Bereavement." She will incorporate folk tales with personal applications for participants, as well as some of stories from her many journeys to Burning Man, where she helped create a massive, on-going installation committed to grief. More about Kim, her Ted talks, her artwork, and her academic research can be found here: http://www.kim-bateman.com/.
In addition, I wanted to relay the incredible slate of upcoming events we have for the remainder of the year!
May 3rd, Frank Ostaseski
June 7th, Isabel Stenzel
July-- No Meeting/Summer Break
August 2nd, Redwing Keyssar
September 6th, Dawn Gross
October 4th, Film: Voices of Grief (with the film makers!)
Quite an amazing slate indeed?
So, please join us over the lunch hour at one (or all!) of these presentations! We look forward to seeing you!
I am also happy to get you lunch at our next meeting. Just let me know, by Tuesday evening. Box lunches are 15.00, and are obtained from http://picnixsf.com/. Let me know what you like?
