The San Francisco Bay Area Network for End-of-Life Care (SFEOL) is a diverse group of professionals and volunteers working in and committed to the improvement of end-of-life care in the Bay Area. The participants include individuals representing local hospices, healthcare organizations, educational institutions, long-term care facilities, and a variety of non-profit organizations that serve the many end-of-life needs in the region.
Our mission is to offer support and build community among all those involved in end-of-life care in the Bay Area; to work toward improvement of end-of-life care by increasing public awareness through education, by identifying and filling end-of-life needs in diverse communities, and by strengthening local resources in all areas of end-of-life care.
We meet monthly via Zoom to discuss current developments, share information and work toward common goals embodied in our mission statement. Meetings are the first Wednesday of every month from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Pacific time. We are happy to have you join the 30+ individuals representing 50-60 organizations that show up for our meetings every month. Each meeting includes an opportunity for networking, discussions of organizational planning and decision-making for the Network, and a substantive presentation on some aspect of hospice, end-of-life, or palliative care.
Our Steering Committee works with the speakers each month, sets up and plans the networking meetings, and collaborates with other organizations in the Bay Area.
We provide speakers or panels of experts for organizations or community groups for discussion and exploration of difficult end-of-life issues. For many, simply opening up a conversation about end-of-life issues is the hardest step. We facilitate interactive discussion groups to break the ice and help people become more comfortable with these often sensitive issues. Our participants have expertise in all areas of end-of-life care, and are available for speaking engagements. We can also work with you to design a program tailored to your specific needs.
History
The Network has met regularly since March of 2000.
We are supported by the San Francisco Marin Medical Society, which serves as a 501(c)(3) umbrella. We partner with the San Francisco Interfaith Council, participate in the projects of the California Coalition for Compassionate Care, and work with the American Society on Aging to plan continuing education on end-of-life care.
